Common Issues & Solutions
This guide covers the most common issues you might encounter and how to resolve them.
1. Actions Are Not Being Recorded
If ArkScribe isn't capturing your clicks or typing, try these steps:
- Check if Recording is Active: Open the extension popup. The status should say "Recording". If it says "Ready" or "Paused", click the appropriate button to start or resume.
- Refresh the Page: After installing ArkScribe for the first time, you may need to refresh the tab you want to record on.
- Unsupported Pages: Recording is disabled on special browser pages (e.g.,
chrome://...) and the Chrome Web Store for security reasons. - Unsupported Actions: Some actions, like hovering over an element or scrolling, are not automatically captured. Use the manual screenshot hotkey (configurable in Settings) to capture these moments.
2. The Extension Icon Disappeared
If you can't see the ArkScribe icon in your toolbar:
- Click the puzzle piece icon in your browser's toolbar to see all your extensions.
- Find ArkScribe in the list.
- Click the pin icon next to it. This will keep it visible in your toolbar for easy access.
3. Exported PDF or HTML Looks Incorrect
Sometimes, the final exported file can look different from the preview, especially with custom layouts.
- PDF Limitations: The library used for PDF generation (
html2pdf) has some limitations with complex CSS. For best results in PDFs, try to keep custom CSS simple. Avoid complex layouts, transforms, or animations. - Use Print-Friendly CSS: When creating a custom layout, you can add specific styles for printing and PDF generation using
@media print { ... }. - Test with the Default Layout: Try exporting your guide with the default layout. If it looks correct, the issue is likely with the custom HTML/CSS.
4. Pro Features Are Not Working
If you've purchased ArkScribe Pro but can't access features like screenshot editing:
- Activate Your License: Make sure you have activated your license key in the "Pro" tab of the extension.
- Check for Typos: When entering your license key, double-check for any typos.
- Restart Browser: After activating, try restarting your browser.
- Contact Support: If you're still having trouble, please contact me at [email protected] with your license key and I'll help you out.
5. I Lost My Guide
ArkScribe automatically saves your work to your browser's local storage. It's very rare for this data to be lost, but it can happen if:
- You manually clear your browser's cache or site data.
- Your browser profile becomes corrupted.
Unfortunately, because ArkScribe is 100% local and does not use cloud storage, I have no way to recover lost data.
